Custom Car Covers Vs. Universal Car Covers

Mass-produced goods may come cheaper than custom produced goods, but they often entail more costs in the long run. Let us explain.

Mass produced goods seldom give you the satisfaction of a custom produced product. Take for example suits that are mass produced in certain sizes and are offered much cheaper as compared to the tailored one where the fabric has been pre-selected for durability and style. The former may have a jacket whose sleeves are an inch longer or the trousers whose length is an inch shorter. Besides, the mass produced clothes are often made up of patchwork materials where several pieces of the same fabric have been stitched up to serve as a one-piece textile.

Car covers are no exception.
The essential duty of a car cover is to protect the car against so many things that include the sun and the rain, both of which are perpetually damaging the finish of the lovely vehicle. Then there is the UV radiation, which is a silent adversary, slowly, and surely damaging and destroying the body of the vehicle and the lush interior too. In order to protect the car or the SUV from all such hazards, one needs a material that is durable enough to withstand the fury of the elements, soft enough to provide an abrasion-free touch to the car body, has UV inhibiting properties to ward off unwanted ultra violet rays, is provided with pores to ‘breath’ during precipitation and above all, one that is a close fit covering every corner, contour and flanks of the car or the SUV. The close fit is an absolute necessity as otherwise dirt and dust will penetrate through the odd-fitting car cover, rainwater will percolate through the seams if they are numerous, and UV rays will find fissures to gain entry into the interior of the vehicle and do the damage. And of course, a snug fit heightens the aesthetics of your parked car.

Universal or Semi-Custom Car Covers
Why do you need 100% custom made covers? Simple. Universal or semi-custom car covers are like those ‘Readymade’ suits that are mass produced, in around two or three sizes, and are supposed to suit all cars or SUVs, an objective that is absolutely unrealistic. A Universal or Semi-Custom Car Cover made for a Mercedes Benz C-class estate can never do any good to a Chevrolet Optra Magnum. It may be too tight at the top and too baggy at the bottom. Also, it may leave the Chevy’s built-in bumpers uncovered where UV radiation, moisture, rock, salt and snow will do their destructive work in right earnest. However, once their combined effects are successful and rust sets in, it is the beginning of the end of the Optra.
